DeNatale Doctor and Laura:

After the events of Memoriam (160), while the DeNatale Doctor is travelling with Christine, they go on holiday to the planet Verily. They spend a couple weeks there, with Christine getting close to some of the locals. Then, giant telepathic scarabs invade and control the populace. Christine falls under their influence along with her friends. The DeNatale Doctor saves them, but not before much damage has been done to the planet. When asked to stay, Christine is tempted, especially after that ordeal. The DeNatale Doctor proposes a happy medium: Christine can stay there, to spend some time with her new friends and recover from everything that has happened recently, and then he will return to pick her up in a few months, if she wants to rejoin him in the TARDIS. To assuage any concerns, he gives her a homing beacon that will ensure the TARDIS finds her at the right time.
The DeNatale Doctor gets into the TARDIS and intends to jump two months into the future and pick Christine up again. However, he picks up a distress call and decides to investigate, heading to England in the 1940s. There, he discovers a mole-like creature - Kendal the Krandal - has, while trying to be helpful, inadvertently released an alien growth hormone that has infected the crops and so the carrots are now as tall as a person and walking around like they're alive. The DeNatale Doctor teams up with Laura Beatty, a Land Girl whose knowledge of agricultural matters are greatly helpful. With the mutant carrots dealt with, the DeNatale Doctor offers Laura one trip in the TARDIS as he enjoys her company and feels like he owes her for saving his life when a mutant carrot nearly buried him alive.
But then one trip turns into another, and by the time we see them in The Voice of Reason, they've been on a handful of adventures - to the distant past and far future, visiting alien worlds and battling menacing foes. I imagined a "lost season" of adventures for the DeNatale Doctor and Laura, including an encounter with a Sontaran in the Roman Colosseum while being jeered at by the Emperor. They won't be together too much longer; a near-death experience in an octopus tank in an underwater research lab will mark the end of their adventures, especially when Laura realises she doesn't want her friends and family to think she has abandoned them to the War if she dies elsewhere. Returning her to her rightful time and place, the DeNatale Doctor reunites with Christine, who has come to realise in the intervening months that her place is still with the Doctor and that she hasn't found a new home yet.
Laura understands the Doctor's world is full of wonders but isn't quite used to all of them enough that she always makes the right decision. She's kind and thoughtful, though easily frightened. Her knowledge is based in agriculture. She is physically fit and determined. Her heart will overrule her head. Shy around strangers, she's always eager to make a good impression.
